A car reported stolen in Corner Brook on Monday has been located and the alleged thief charged.
The 2013 Hyundai Elantra had been reported stolen from a driveway in the city.
At 10:13 p.m. Tuesday Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle — a blue, four-door sedan with tinted windows.
The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle to identify the driver, but the young man fled from the area at a high rate of speed.
Officers continued to patrol the area looking for the vehicle and driver and the 20-year-man was arrested early Wednesday morning.
He’s been charged with theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, driving while disqualified, possession of property obtained by crime, four breaches of probation and break and enter. In relation to the incident that led to his arrest he’s also been charged with separate counts of driving while disqualified, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two breaches of probation.
