Newfoundland and Labrador may be a fair distance from England, but traditionally this province has had a strong connection with the United Kingdom and along with it an interest in the Royal Family. That interest has been piqued of late with the preparations for the next Royal Wedding. By the time many of you are reading this Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have been wed at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. Television coverage of the wedding was to start at 4 a.m.
We asked some people this week if they were interested in the royal wedding and if they’d be watching the celebrations?

I do care about it. It’s just always been a part of my history, my culture, to know about it. But it’s not something that I’m going to make sure I see. We wish them well. And I really, really truly do. It’s part of our history, so you have to support it, but we’re not obsessed. We still love Lady Di. I’ll watch the reruns.

Of course, I’ve got an interest in it. I’m not going to get up at 4 o’clock though. I will tape it, I will PVR it. I’ve got family who are from England and it’s just always a feel-good thing. I’ve watched his mother get married and I’ve watched his brother get married. It’s always like these fairy tale things.

I think it’s a waste of money. But other than that, it brings in a lot of people and a lot of revenue. It seems like as the young ones are growing up and taking over everybody seems to be interested in it now. I really think when the Queen got 65 or so she should have passed it along to her son and her son should pass it along to his children. I don’t believe in going there and staying there till you dies. The young people would bring a renewance of the importance of the Crown.

I do, mostly because I find the history of the Royal Family really interesting. So, now an upcoming wedding is kind of exciting. I plan to watch the wedding. Not sure I’ll get up at 4 a.m. We’ll see, maybe I’ll record it.

Yes. I don’t know, everything really. I just enjoy watching them. I will be in meetings all day, but I would love to watch it. I’ll watch the replay.

Yes, I am. Because it’s romance, the thought of romance which you don’t get much of these days. It’s the thought that ordinary people can have that fantasy of becoming a princess or a duchess. When we were little girls we dressed up as princesses and could never imagine that that could be true, but of course it can be. I watched every minute of Kate and William’s wedding, I got it taped off. So, I’ll tape off this one, too, and I’ll keep it.
