Grand Falls-Windsor saw a 61 per cent turnout in voters – a huge increase over the last municipal election, which saw 47 per cent of voters casting ballots.
“Anytime you’re in this position it feels good. I’m proud of the campaign we ran, I had a great team behind me…to see so many people come out to the polls, to see things favour myself at the end of the day – it’s heartwarming to see.
“It really energizes me to get back to work,” Manuel said in an interview shortly after the election results were announced on Rogers TV.
Manuel added he would “like to pick up where the old council left off.
“I feel we have a lot of momentum going, a lot of positive things going…I’m looking forward to the new ideas of the new councillors.”
Three incumbents will return to council chambers and three newly elected councillors will begin their political careers on the council.
