Bay St. George RCMP looking for information on who damaged Lions property

Surveying the damage to the Lions Club property on Woodland Drive in Stephenville, Henry Hedderson, club president, scratches his head while wondering why a person would engage in such destruction.

Henry Hedderson, Stephenville Lions Club president, poses for a photo next to damage that was done to the Lions grounds property sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday.

He said the damages, which he estimates will cost more than $2,000 to repair, occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the last Lions members left after bingo to when it was discovered by their lawn keeper at noon on Thursday.

Hedderson said he reported the damages to police, who believe it was done by a pickup truck, but unfortunately, without video surveillance, there was no way of knowing when it actually occurred.

Not only did the driver do a large donut, strewing sod and gravel for a long distance in one spot on the grounds, but they then did the same type of maneuver on a second spot.

Hedderson said coming up with money for something like this is tough for a charitable organization.

“The Stephenville Lions Club helps a lot of people in the community and there is no need for someone to be doing something like this. That’s basically senseless,” he said.

Anyone with information on the damages done at the Stephenville Lions Club grounds is asked to contact the Bay St. George RCMP at (709) 643-2118.
