Jason Simeon Genge, 37, was arrested in Corner Brook Monday after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a report of a disturbance at a business on the city’s west side involving a disorderly intoxicated man.
According to the police, the man was detained under the Detention of Intoxicated Persons Act. Before he had sobered up enough to be released, the RNC discovered he was subject to court orders in both Corner Brook and Grand Falls-Windsor, so Genge was charged with two breaches of court orders and one breach of probation.
Among those court orders were conditions that he abstain from consuming alcohol and that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Genge, who is from Brig Bay on the Northern Peninsula, had been scheduled to appear at provincial court in Corner Brook on six charges July 12 Those include counts of impaired driving, failing the breathalyzer and two counts each of assault and breaching probation.
He is also on the Aug. 9 docket at provincial court in Grand Falls-Windsor for four offences, including impaired driving, causing a disturbance and two breaches of court orders.
When Genge was brought before Judge Kymil Howe at provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday, Crown attorney Adam Sparkes was opposed to his release. The matter will be called again for status Wednesday morning.
Genge expressed concern about not being released because he is scheduled to go back to work Thursday. Howe told him he needed to speak to a lawyer about being released.
