A total of 22 entries took part in the third annual Long Range Shriners Cardboard Box Derby Races at Marble Mountain Saturday.

Some of the homemade contraptions were sturdily built and managed to whisk their riders all the way over the finish line to the bottom of the slope.

Some weren’t so lucky and, if they didn’t fall apart halfway down the hill, had to be pushed or pulled across by their creators.

No matter how or where they finished, there were plenty of smiles all around.

The derby featured four categories, namely parent/child, elementary school, junior high school and open.
