The Corner Brook Baseball Association has been lamenting the embarrassing state of the baseball field clubhouse, particularly its washrooms, for years.
During Monday night’s public meeting of city council, Mayor Charles Pender called the building atrocious and an eyesore. He said a new building is on the list of items the city hopes to access provincial and federal funding for.
After the meeting, Pender said there is a preliminary design for a one-and-a-half-storey building in mind, but the full details will be worked out in coordination with the baseball association. He estimated it will cost about $1.5 million to replace the structure.
The city also hopes to eventually address the need for more building facilities at the Wellington Street Complex soccer pitch. The baseball field’s needs are the priority for this year, but Pender said the city will be providing temporary building facilities at the soccer pitch this year.
