According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the woman was arrested after police responded to a report of a disturbance shortly after midnight Wednesday morning. Police said a firearm, which court documents indicate was a handgun, was discharged during the incident.

A 30-year-old man was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm and ammunition as a result of the investigation, but he was released.

The woman was held in custody after an appearance in provincial court Wednesday, but was released on two $1,000 sureties and certain conditions Thursday.

During Thursday’s court appearance, a publication ban was requested by Crown attorney Adam Sparkes and granted by Judge Catherine Allen-Westby. It was put in place to protect the identity of any child witnesses who may be part of the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.

The conditions of the woman’s release stipulate she must reside at the home of the sureties, she has to adhere to a curfew and she cannot possess any weapons. The woman is also not allowed to have any contact with the man who was involved in the incident and must arrange access to her own children only with permission from the Family Division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

She had her next appearance in provincial court set for Nov. 14.

The man will make his first appearance in provincial court at a later date, which had not yet been set by the court s of deadline Thursday.
