The winner of the competition will get a prize valued at more than $50,000.
RBC Bluesfest, in a press release announcing the finalists, described the prize as including "a whirlwind, career-building trip to Los Angeles to work with Barrett Yeretsian (Jar of Hearts, Christina Perri), a top LA-based music producer, to record a song at the legendary Sunset Sound Recording Studio."
The prize package also includes "a star makeover, photo shoot and music tutorial" before you making a "Hollywood Style music video courtesy of Popmania."
Since winning the 2013 MusicNL Statoil Newfound Talent Search in St. John's, Peckford has taken the local music scene by storm. She was recently nominated for City of Corner Brook Achievement in Community Excellence Award in the category of Emerging Artist of the Year.
She has opened for the award-winning MusicNL band RocketRocket Ship, as well as the multi-award winning MusicNL group Fortunate Ones. She has co-starred in her own local performance to a near-capacity audience at Swirsky's in Corner Brook, plus countless other local performances.
A regular at the past three Trails, Tales and Tunes Festivals in Norris Point, she recently completed her studio work for two demo recordings with Chris Kirby of Dipole Productions, which is just one portion of her prize from The Newfound Talent Search.
She is currently awaiting the production of that demo CD, as well as a music video by Heavyweather.ca, and a website courtesy of DC Design House.
Peckford is scheduled to perform at the 2014 Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival in St. John's on Aug. 10.
