Prominent Corner Brook businessman Sterling Randell has died.

Mr. Randell died at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook Saturday at the age of 85.

He owned Locke’s Electrical Limited, which was founded in 1948 and was incorporated 1952.

Originally situated in Curling, the business moved in the 1970s to its current location and was one of the first buildings in what was then the new Maple Valley Industrial Park.

Under the leadership of Mr. Randell, the electrical contractor flourished. Today, Locke’s is one of the oldest contractors in the province. It operates in the industrial electrical sector, performing work that includes electrical, transmission line, power line, substation and protection and control work.

Locke’s is a key contractor in the Lower Churchill Project.

Mr. Randell continued to come to work each and every day up until his illness. His development and implementation of a succession plan has been key in Locke’s continuing success, employing well over 100 employees in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. Randell was known for his love of fishing and hunting. He was also active in the community outside of his work by having served as a board member with the Newfoundland and Labrador Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.
