David Claude Cooper, a 29-year-old Stephenville man charged with assault with a weapon, mischief and breach of release conditions, is being sent to the Waterford Hospital in St. John’s for observation.
The order came when he appeared in Stephenville Provincial Court on Monday.
Cooper was taken into custody after a report of an assault at a residence on Gordon Crescent in Stephenville at about 4:30 p.m., on Friday when members of Bay St. George RCMP attended.
The victim reported minor injuries but police wouldn’t say what type of weapon was involved. Police said the two men were known to each other.
