Coach Victoria Curran, right, is helped by player Brooklyn Childs in leading some stretching exercises at the start of a girls baseball practice at Jubilee Field in Corner Brook Saturday.

Dubbed the Bring a Female Friend Day, the idea behind the clinic was to get even more young girls exposed to the game.

The Corner Brook Baseball Association already has enough girls interested to start a female baseball program, which has been up and running for the last couple of weeks. It marks the first time in the 55-year history of the association that it has had an all-girls league.

Saturday’s clinic was facilitated by Baseball NL female director Bob Morgan and featured Jacklyn Morgan and Victoria Curran, two players who have played baseball in the United States and on the national stage. Local coaches from the Corner Brook minor program also helped out.

While it hasn’t been finalized yet, there is a plan in the works to have a team from Corner Brook take on a girls team based out of Pasadena on Monday evening. The game would take place at Bennett Sports Field in Pasadena.
