The reformed Indian Head First Nation Band has a new interim executive, and Susan White of Stephenville says it had an excellent startup on Thursday night.
“I think it should never have been disbanded in the first place. Why change something that was working?” she asked.
With 70 people registered at Thursday evening’s meeting, White, who was one of the people in attendance, said it was a good show of people and she is confidant people will get involved.

While she didn’t know all the people who were elected to the executive, she knew a lot of them and believes they will do a good job to get the organization underway and set up the band.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the year is going to bring,” White said.
Hayward Young, the newly elected chief, said organizers have already been getting a lot of interest from people outside the boundary of Indian Head First Nation, which includes Stephenville, Stephenville Crossing and Mattis Point.
He says it should be opened to anyone who meets the criteria, as they will be stronger with larger numbers.
Young suggested the band use the criteria it used for members to gain status, prior to the points system that was brought in during the enrolment process.
The first job of the new executive is to come up with bylaws, which he said they will bring back to the membership to have ratified. He suggested regular meetings of the band on a monthly basis.
At the end of the first year under the interim executive a full election will be held for a new executive to serve a three-year term.
Judy Dunphy, another attendee, said she attended for information gathering, and to see how this organization is going to impact the community or help people who are members.
