Fire Chief Wayne Reilly of the Stephenville Fire Department said the fire was called in at 11:39 a.m. with 11 members of the fire department responding.
He said it was an intense fire with a lot of flame and smoke on their arrival, however, they were able to get it under control quickly and within less than an hour they were just working on some hot spots.
Myron Gallant, owner of the building, said the fire was believed to have started in the motor of an exhaust fan unit located on the roof of the building over the spray booth. Firefighters observed a deep sag in the building at the location of the unit with fears that it would drop through.
Despite the damages to the building, the owner was pleased that all his employees were able to get out safely when the fire took place and spread very quickly.
Gallant said insurance was carried on the building.
