Edward Myers was charged with two counts of trafficking a controlled drug or substance in November 2013. The joint force drug team executed a search warrant in Myers’ room of a bed-sitting residence on Concord Avenue.
According to the evidence presented in court Monday, police seized a quantity of marijuana stored in different places and packaging throughout the room. The seizure included two large plastic bags containing more than 117 grams of marijuana and another small plastic bag with a small portion of the same drug, and a box with 12 pre-packed marijuana packages for a total of just over 48 grams. Inside a closet, police reported finding a cooler with 9 freezer-locked bags of marijuana and four mason jars with mostly smoked roaches inside totalling more than 2,000 grams of additional marijuana.
They also found two chunks of cannabis resin hash next to the bed on the floor.
Police also allege to have found three scales, $1,090 in cash, and a small coiled book believed to be scoresheets.
Myers — who owned a small fly-tying business for years — was not there at the time the search commenced, but was arrested when he arrived as police were searching his room. He was advised he was being charged with trafficking and issued a notice to appear in court at a later date.
Myers pleaded not guilty to the two trafficking charges. The trial began in provincial court in Corner Brook Monday, but only one witness was called because Crown attorney Adam Joyce requested a postponement because of illness. Legal aid lawyer Gary Kearney consented.
The trial will resume July 20.
