Quehe’s family is one of two selected for the Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador Corner Brook build.
They’ll be moving into one half of the duplex currently being constructed at 44 Petries St.
Under the Habitat program families are able to own their own home through an interest-free mortgage, making home ownership a reality for many who may not be able to avail of traditional mortgages.

The Quehes — Jessica, husband Adam and children, Tyler, 8, and Zoey, 5 — are currently living in a rental house in Meadows.
“We’ve been struggling for awhile trying to find a way to own our own home,” said Quehe.
She works in home care and her husband is a plaster/painter.
When they heard of the Habitat build, Quehe said they decided to apply, never thinking they would be selected. Hearing that more than 45 applications had been received left them feeling less confident.
Then came the phone call that they made the final four, and with it feelings of excitement and nervousness. Still they didn’t want to get too excited.
On Jan. 19 they were notified that they were successful.
“Over the moon and back and then back again,” is how Quehe described the feeling on hearing the news. “It’ll mean stability, no more stress."
She said the new three-bedroom home will be perfect for her family.
She feels they would have made it on their own eventually, but not for a very long time.
“Life throws curveballs at you all the time and makes things difficult from time to time.”
The family is now putting some sweat equity into the build. Quehe’s husband has been doing some work already and she’ll be joining him over the next few months.
The Quehes' neighbours in the duplex will be Melissa Bellows and her two children. Coincidentally, they both know Bellows, which Quehe said is nice.
Quehe is hoping they’ll be in their new home by June or July. Until then she’s still got some packing to do.
