The latest sighting came last weekend when Linda Roberts and Tammy Beck reported seeing a large black cat, similar to a black panther or jaguar, pm Glide Brook Road Sunday.
According to a post on the town’s Facebook page Wednesday evening, Roberts contacted the wildlife division of the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources.
The animal was described as having rounded ears, a muscular cat body and a very long, thick rope-like black curled tail.
According to the post, Roberts and her husband Wayne had a similar encounter with an animal fitting that description on Pynn’s Brook Road in early September.
Deer Lake is asking residents to use caution when walking in areas outside of town.
