Man charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Saturday

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) charged a Happy Valley-Goose Bay man with kidnapping and forcible confinement on Saturday.

44-year-old Israel Perkins was held in custody for a court appearance Sunday morning.

Shortly after noon on Saturday, Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP received a complaint that a woman from Goose Bay was taken against her will by her spouse. Police said they conducted extensive patrols of the area but were unable to locate the couple.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, RCMP said they got a call from the woman, who was in Churchill Falls. They said she had managed to flee the vehicle without sustaining any injuries.

RCMP and RNC soon found and arrested Perkins.

The investigation is continuing and RCMP said other charges against Perkins are likely.
