The Massey Drive man who allegedly escaped from police custody Saturday morning has been remanded in custody until his next provincial court appearance Sept. 19.

Spencer G. Bell, 23, is charged with escaping lawful custody, resisting arrest and two counts of breaching a recognizance. He also has other outstanding matters in provincial court, including charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and three breaches of court orders.

He was arrested by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on a warrant Saturday but, according to the police, escaped custody and fled into the woods around the Glynmill Inn Pond area of the Corner Brook Stream Trail network.
