Two of the management staff from Marble Mountain visited with the Rotary Club of Corner Brook this week to talk about changes to the ski resort’s operations for the approaching season.

Melissa Dwyer, Marble’s general manager, and Richard Wells, the ski hill’s sales and marketing manager, elaborated on Marble Mountain’s plans to lower ski lift and season pass prices, improve other services and offer more events.

Here is a little of what they had to say to Rotarians:

On the new vision:

“For me, when I grew up as a child in Corner Brook, skiing at Marble Mountain was my childhood and I want to revive that. I want to bring back the community support. I want more events and to just make it more fun for people.”

- Richard Wells, sales and marketing manager

On getting the word out:

“We realize that one of the things we failed at in the past was our communications. We’re working hard on making sure all the avenues (of communicating what’s happening) are updated and our (frontline) staff are more aware of what’s going on at the mountain.”

- Melissa Dwyer, general manager

On some of the new ideas for events at Marble and being open to suggestion for more:

“There’s no bad idea for us this year. We are attempting to not discriminate. We want to involve other aspects of winter enthusiasm and sports (such as fat bikes, snowshoeing).”

- Richard Wells, sales and marketing manager

On developing Marble Mountain into a four-season destination:

“We want to focus on skiing, snowboarding and the winter aspect. We want to grow into a four season (operation) … (but) we would prefer that to be private investment. … We are hopefully soon going to be opening up the base for third-party proposals.”

- Melissa Dwyer, general manager
