The RCMP has concluded there was nothing criminal in nature about a German pop singer going overboard a cruise ship off Newfoundland last weekend.

On Sept. 9, RCMP said they were notified that a male passenger on the cruise ship AidaLuna was believed to be missing from the vessel. This event occurred at sea, in Canadian jurisdiction. Unfortunately, a multi-agency co-ordinated effort to locate the missing person was unsuccessful.

In such instances, the RCMP initiates a missing person investigation, including an examination of the scene, witness interviews and the collection of all available evidence.

The RCMP said it does not normally discuss non-criminal matters, and out of respect for the family, will not be releasing further details regarding this investigation.

Reports at the time of the incident indicated Aida Cruises had confirmed in a series of tweets that German pop singer Daniel Kueblboeck was missing after going overboard from the cruise ship.

The dpa news agency and Bild newspaper reported Kueblboeck achieved short-lived fame as a contestant in 2003 on the national talent show “Germany Seeks the Superstar.”
