Province's women's team loses its first game at curling championships

With a one-point lead after eight ends of play, Newfoundland and Labrador's women's team was unable to hold on for the win.

Saskatchewan scored three points in the ninth end to take the game nine to seven in both teams first match at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors Curling Championships at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook this afternoon.

The Newfoundland team — skip Sarah Hill, third Danielle Wiseman, second Sarah Ford and lead Heidi Trickett — picked up one point in the first end, two in the second, three in the forth and one in the eighth.

Saskatchewan, skipped by Kristen Streifel, scored one point in the third end, three in the fifth, and one in each of the sixth and seventh ends before taking the win with the three points scored in the ninth.

The Newfoundland women's team will take to the ice again at 7:30 p.m. in a game against Prince Edward Island.

The province's men's team will meet Ontario at the same time. The men lost their first game against Nova Scotia earlier in the day.
