Coun. Mark Felix proposed having community “question and answer’ meetings on Thursday and while it was agreed to by other council members Coun. Laura Aylward was a bit more reluctant in her support.

Council had set its 2018 schedule for regular general meetings earlier during their last regular general meeting of 2017.

Felix noted that the new schedule for regular meetings are all being held at noon but proposed the quarterly meeting in the evening to give residents a chance to come in and ask questions, since they were foregoing evenings for regular general meetings.

He asked that any councillors that could make those quarterly meetings to attend if they could.

Following their election to council an evening meeting was called for nominees who had run unsuccessfully to come in and discuss concerns they might have with council.

That meeting left a bit of a sour taste with Aylward, who said at least one of the people in attendance should have been taken to task for a personal attack of a town staff member.

She said she wouldn’t like to see a repeat of that at one of these meetings but agreed to attend them if available.

A schedule of those meetings will be drawn up later and posted on the Town of Stephenville website.
