Mayor Tom Rose is impressed by the good gender balance on the newly formed Economic Development Committee for the Town of Stephenville.
He made the comment during the adoption of the terms of reference for the committee and approval of committee members by council at Thursday’s regular general meeting of council.
Rose also commented that he would like to see more gender balance on other committees, including the Stephenville Gardens Commission which is responsible for overseeing the Stephenville Dome which currently has no female representation.

Coun. Mark Felix, who is serving as chairperson of the committee, made the motion on the adoption and approval.
Felix said the terms of reference provide the guidelines and operating procedures that will be incorporated as the committee moves forward.
“This is the first time in 35 years of community economic development that I have seen such an inclusive approach through collaborative partnerships to address the business and community development opportunities for our town,” he said.
The first committee meeting takes place on April 10 at the W.E. Cormack board room. There will be several working groups formed and many more residents will get an opportunity to contribute to growing the town as the year unfolds.
