The third of four men charged in a home invasion in Reidville last fall has pleaded guilty.

Jared Paul Healey, 21, was not in provincial court when his matter was called Tuesday morning. His lawyer, Julia Smart, entered a guilty plea on his behalf to break and entry with intent to commit an offence.

Healey was actually charged with the more serious offence of using a firearm to commit a robbery, but Crown attorney Lori St. Croix accepted the guilty plea to the lesser charge.

St. Croix also conditionally withdrew the other two remaining charges against Healey, namely forcible confinement and being disguised with intent to commit an offence. Those charges will be dismissed as long as Healey is convicted of the charge to which he has entered the guilty plea.

A pre-sentence report has been requested to help the court decide an appropriate sentence for Healy. A sentencing hearing for the break and entry charge has been scheduled for June 7.

Last week, the man who did carry a loaded shotgun into a family’s home in Reidville last Oct. 8 with intention of settling a $250 drug debt with a young man who lived there was sent to prison for five years. Ricky Leslie Halfyard, 29, pleaded guilty to three offences on the day he was set to go on trial.

A third man, 23-year-old Tanner Thomas Healey, has also entered guilty pleas for his role in the incident and will have his sentencing hearing April 19.

The fourth man charged in the incident, 20-year-old Dylan Joseph Ryan, has not yet entered pleas, but has elected to be tried by judge alone in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. He has a preliminary inquiry scheduled for provincial court July 6 to see if he will be committed to stand trial.
