The session, held at the Glynmill Inn, is one of 14 destinations where Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador will bring movers and shakers in the tourism industry together under one roof to learn ways to grow their business.
Broadhurst, an Ottawa native who now calls Corner Brook home, has been working as the office and operations coordinator for the past three years with Wild Women Expeditions — an adventure travel company exclusive to female travellers.
Tourism operators were given a chance to learn from industry professionals and experts in areas relevant to their businesses, as well as meet face-to-face with the people and organizations focused on helping them succeed.
Broadhurst spoke to The Western Star moments after listening to a session on social media management. Getting some good information on TripAdvisor and YouTube, which Broadhurst admits has been using ineffectively, brought a smile to her face.
“I was hoping to gain a little bit more information really on how to use these two mediums in an effective way,” Broadhurst said. “Everything ... was exactly what I needed to hear to get things up and running and then to stay on top of it.”
The road show is a new initiative of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador. HNL’s chief executive officer Carol-Ann Gilliard of St. Jacques said the goal of bringing people together under one roof was to provide experience development training, training in social media and networking opportunities.
More importantly, she said, some of the resource organizations who can play a key partnership role — such as Atlantic Canada Opportunties Agency and Canadian Business Development Bank — were also committed to making the road show a worthwhile venture.
