Deer Lake’s new industrial park has a new name and an accompanying theme for naming its streets.

Earlier this week, town council agreed to call the area the Veterans Memorial Industrial Park in honour of all those who have offered their services in the name of their country.

The streets within the industrial park will be named after veterans.

The three streets that make up the park now will be known as Piercey Drive, Yetman Drive and Wheeler Drive.

According to Deputy Mayor Mike Goosney, each of the surnames on the streets represent families who have had multiple veterans and are not named after any one particular person.

“People always ask with any development, if it’s appropriate to name it in honour of veterans,” said Goosney. “If you ask me, what better place to honour them than in a working class setting because that’s the kind of people who have also helped build this country.”

Goosney said other veteran’s names will be honoured as the industrial park expands and new roads are required.
