The Town of Deer Lake is looking to connect the dots on its recreation area by putting a master plan in place for Schwartz Park.
The park on Bennett’s Avenue already features a playground, walking trails, softball and soccer fields, a bike/skateboard park, dog park and beach volleyball court. It’s also the place where the town holds many community events and recreation director Junior Pinksen said the feeling is that is could offer much more.
“We know it’s an area that is well utilized and we want to put a plan in place to add some amenities.”
The vision includes adding to the playground equipment, possibly putting in a walking track and a splash pad and maybe even a basketball court.
With a minor baseball program starting in town he said the area is going to see more use.
Pinksen sees the area as serving all members of the community and being a great location for family activities of all kinds.
While young kids play on the playground older kids could head off to the skateboard park and seniors and adults could walk while a game of softball or soccer is going on.
To make it easier to access the town is also looking at paving the road.
The master plan for the park will be developed in 2018 and once completed Pinksen said the town will look at the cost to implement it and budget to make it happen.
