Deputy Mayor Susan Fowlow said the Stephenville town council is looking at suspending Friday’s bulk garbage collection for the peak tourism season.

That why council, at its regular general meeting this past Thursday, adopted the 2018 clean-up period to be held from May 22 to June 2 and Friday’s bulk collection to start on April 27 and run until June 29.

Fowlow said the intention is not to get rid of something that was working but rather for council to try the best it can to mitigate having debris piled up on properties during the tourism season.

She is hoping the Friday bulk collection at the allotted time will be a good compromise.

In previous years, the Friday bulk collection was carried out throughout all the summer months.

Mayor Tom Rose said he’s for anything that will keep individual properties clean and debris out of waterways.

“We need to get green champions in different areas of the town and have good communications and stewardship for the future,” he said.
