The trial for three people charged in late 2015 after police seized more than 40 pounds of marijuana was postponed Monday morning, despite protests from one of the defence lawyers.
Tyler Quigley, 25, Kevin Foley, 26, and Erica Dawe, 24, had been set to go to trial in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John’s on charges of possessing marijuana and possessing it for the purpose of trafficking. Despite the desire of one of the defence lawyers to go ahead, proceedings were postponed due to illness of the Crown prosecutor.
The matter will be called again May 24 in order to set a new trial date.

Quigley, Foley and Dawe were arrested in November 2015 at a St. John’s business, and police say the execution of a search warrant turned up 40 1/2 pounds of marijuana. All three were released on bail the same week.
The drug bust was one of two made by members of the RCMP/RNC Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) that day, though police said at the time they didn’t appear to be connected. The CFSEU held a news conference where they displayed the items seized: along with the marijuana were a kilogram of cocaine, two firearms, a bulletproof vest and $10,000 cash.
Charges against another man in relation to the cocaine and firearms were later withdrawn.
