According to Environment Canada, rain, at times heavy, is expected for the Port aux Basques and Burgeo-Ramea areas as a warm and humid air mass moves over Newfoundland ahead of a cold front expected to cross the island Friday.
The heaviest rainfall rates are expected in these areas Thursday night with total amounts between 35 and 65 millimetres expected by Friday morning before the rain tapers to showers or drizzle.
For Bay St. George northwards to the Strait of Belle Isle, between 25 and 45 millimetres are expected by Friday morning.
A wind warning is in effect for the Wreckhouse area of southwestern Newfoundland. Strong southeasterly winds are expected to gust up to 100 kilometres per hour in the area Thursday afternoon. Winds are forecast to diminish below warning criteria in the evening as they shift to come out of the southwest.
Environment Canada is urging motorists to be prepared to adjust driving habits with changing road conditions due to the high winds, which can push a vehicle around, especially on roads through mountain passes and along deep valleys
