The Stephenville town council had to defer five of six items under finance this past Thursday until its next meeting.

That’s because any matters being voted on that involve approving financial payments need a two-thirds majority so an item for accounts payable and others involving donations had to be deferred.

At its second evening meeting since the council got elected in September there were only four of the seven council members in attendance.

Mayor Tom Rose, Coun. Maurice Hynes and Coun. Mike Tobin were unable to attend, so Deputy Mayor Susan Fowlow chaired the meeting in Rose’s absence.

The other item approved involved dates set for budget public consultations and no monetary disbursement.

Part of council’s reasoning for holding evening meetings was to provide the public an opportunity to attend; however, there was nobody from the public in attendance.
