A passenger was removed from a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 into a waiting ambulance late this morning and brought to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital after the jet airliner made a medical emergency landing at Stephenville airport.

The plane, out of Frankfurt, Germany on its way to Chicago, Illinois, USA, was passing over Newfoundland when the medical emergency was declared and the pilot decided to land at the closest airport in Stephenville.

A ground handling crew took off the passenger’s bag and the plane took on fuel before departing at about 12:20 p.m. from Stephenville airport.

The condition of the male passenger that was taken off or other details on him are not known at this time.
