The driver — the lone occupant of the Day and Ross truck, which appears to have been carrying gardening equipment and supplies — was seen walking from the scene after being trapped for about an hour. He was then treated by paramedics at the crash site, before being taken to hospital in Port aux Basques just a short time ago.
The contents of the container of the truck were thrown around during the crash, which occurred at an area known as Overfalls Brook near South Branch at about 1 p.m.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to the accident, and remain at the scene. There appears to be no evidence the truck tried to stop or other signs of what could have caused the accident. It is sunshine, with no wind in the area, and the roads are clear.
The Gulf News will attempt to update the situation when more details become available.
