Faith Young said it’s the women at the Bay St. George Women’s Centre that inspire her to speak out on women’s issues.

“My peer group is pretty much people over the age of 30 (years),” she quipped during an interview at the women’s centre in Stephenville.

'Silent protest planned at Stephenville High'

The senior high school student at Stephenville High was proud to be on hand and share in the celebration that day of the burning of the Women’s Centre mortgage, a milestone for the Bay St. George Status of Women.

“I feel I can genuinely make change when I’m around (the women at the centre) and that’s what I want to do,” Young said.

Young was one of the students at Stephenville High that was recently involved with the silent protest at her school aimed at changing policy regarding how sexual assault cases at schools are handled.

She is hoping that the legislation will be changed on this and if not, students will be pushing further to make sure it’s changed.

After completing her Level 3 this year, she is hoping to be accepted into the stagecraft theatre program at Grenfell Campus of Memorial University in Corner Brook in the fall.

Even though that will involve her being in Corner Brook she still plans to drop by the Bay St. George Women’s Centre whenever she can to lend a helping hand.
