It’s been something he wanted to see come to fruition for years now, so it only made sense that Mount Moriah mayor Joseph Park was in an upbeat mood Friday.
The Town of Mount Moriah will receive $1.7 million for the extension of the Corner Brook water system to improve the drinking water for residents.
Park was among the municipal leaders in the Bay of Islands region who participated in an announcement at the Meadows Recreation Centre Friday where about $3.3 million for municipal improvements through federal and provincial programs in the Humber-Bay of Islands-Corner Brook region.
The money will mean Mount Moriah residents will now have a direct line from the Georgetown Road area going to the connection point in Mount Moriah.
“It’s going to be a direct line coming to us, and the city is obviously going to branch off of that, but there’s not going to be any pressure-reducing valves or anything else that’s going to restrict the amount of water or flow, volume or pressure coming into our town," Park said.
The money is a big investment in the town and Park believes the future looks good because residents no longer have to worry about not having water so there is great potential to develop land within the town that previously wasn’t in the cards.
“Once this is done we can start to grow and hopefully prosper,” he said.
Other funding
The City of Corner Brook will receive $453,000 from each of the provincial and federal government for street resurfacing.
Town of Mount Moriah will receive $66,000 from each of the provincial and federal government for street resurfacing for road upgrading on Sweetapple Drive.
In Humber Arm South, $85,000 in provincial funding and $56,000 in municipal funding for infrastructure upgrades.
Town of Hughes Brook, $27,000 in provincial funding and $18,000 in municipal funding will be used for upgrades to the town hall.
- Town of Meadows, $19,000 in provincial funding and $13,000 in municipal funding will be used for a municipal depot project.
