The trial of a former Hopedale RCMP officer on child luring charges started Monday, Aug. 13 in provincial court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The charges against Ian Kaulback had been stayed when a judge ruled his Charter rights had been violated. That ruling was unanimously overturned by the Court of Appeal in February and Kaulback was ordered to stand trial.

Following the five days of testimony this week an additional three days has been set aside in January to hear from an expert witness who could not be made available this week.

Kaulback was arrested for an alleged child luring Feb. 8, 2013 — an investigation which was handed over to the RNC. He pleaded not guilty at the time and was charged with a second count of child luring July 9, 2014 which he also pled not guilty to.
