Marie June Newman (nee Gabriel)

Corner Brook, NL It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Marie June (Gabriel) Newman announce her passing at the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in her 74th year. She leaves to mourn her large loving family. Daughters: Barbara (late George), Brenda, Robin (Fred), Charlene (Todd), Mag (Tim), Cathy (Carl); Sons: Gerald (Claudia), Vincent, Graham (Sonya), Charlie, Hebert. Grandchildren: Amanda (Dean), Deon (Trudy), Samantha, Billy, Matthew, Rebecca, Crystal, James, Georgina (Jason), Terry-David, Monique, Melanie, Wade Jr., Chrissie, Bianca, Christopher, Kailen, Laura, Owen, Robert, Ivan, Mason, Juanita (Travis), Jessica, Graham Jr. Jayme, Serena, Brandon, Azalyn and all great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her best friends Betty Campbell, Shirley Bennett, Shirley Prosper. She was predeceased by her father Vincent Gabriel, mother Jean Quann, husband Frank Newman; brothers: Alphonsous Gabriel, Raymond Gabriel. Marie was the former Chief of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq for 12 years. Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 7 to 9 pm from Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road. The funeral service will take place today, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 2pm from the Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Mount Bernard Avenue. At Marie’s request, cremation will take place following the service and the interment will be at a later date. As expressions of sympathy there are no flowers by request, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
