They are equally the stewards of growing inequality, permanent war, eco-catastrophe and debilitating austerity.
With any luck, both the Republicans and the Democrats will hemorrhage and split, opening up political space for the emergence of a mass socialist party that is based on the independent organizations of the working class and the dispossessed. That will be the surest way to replace fear with hope for the vast majority.
As the late socialist leader James Connolly said: “Don’t be ‘practical’ in politics. To be practical in that sense means that you have schooled yourself to think along the lines, and in the grooves that those who rob you would desire you to think.”
