CORNER BROOK  Western Health’s phone systems have been fully restored.

The health authority issued an advisory Thursday afternoon that phone service was now fully back up and running at the Hammond Building on West Valley Road.

The phones had been out of commission at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Corner Brook long-term care centre for a portion of Tuesday after abnormally high storm waters soaked an underground cable running beneath West Valley Road. The hospital and long-term care facility had phone systems restored later Tuesday.

The Hammond Building, which houses Health and Community Services offices, began seeing some of its phones operational again Wednesday.

The problem, which has been worked on by a Bell Aliant crew since Tuesday, also initially affected around 200 residential customers. That number was reduced to less than 100 customers Wednesday.

There was no word yet as to how many of Bell Aliant’s residential customers were still affected Thursday afternoon.

Organizations: Bell Aliant, Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Health and Community Services

Geographic location: Corner Brook, West Valley Road

David, David. Almost correct. Now that the phones work we have to get someone to actually answer them. Then we fix health care.
