The Town of Deer Lake recently posted a promotional snowmobiling video on it's website. Pictured here is a screen grab from the Ernesto Fuentes-produced video.

Deer Lake has long been branded the snowmobile hub of the island of Newfoundland and now, the town has a slick new video to prove it.

The town recently posted the finalized version of Ernesto Fuentes’ snowmobiling video on it’s website. The one-minute, 21-second video is meant to highlight the area’s appeal as a snowmobile destination.

Damon Clarke, Deer Lake’s economic development officer, said feedback has been good since the video was posted several weeks ago.

He said the video will be a valuable awareness-generator at trade shows and on websites as the town continues to bill itself as the go-to spot for snowmobiling in the area.

“It will demonstrate for people in a visually-attractive way what we have to offer,” Clarke said. “You need to something to show people what you’re trying to sell and I think that video demonstrates it quite nicely.”

Clarke described the array of groomed trails leading from the community as “spokes of a wheel” and said while short, the video captures the allure and spirit of Deer Lake perfectly.

“We’re kind of at the centre of it and we felt we needed the video to bring it all together,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deer Lake Mayor Dean Ball said he’s pleased to see years of work from staff pay off with the finished video.

“The committee has worked hard on this project and I’m excited for them,” Ball said. “We’ve certainly taken a huge step forward with trying new ideas ... and I can’t say it enough, it’s not only Deer Lake that’s going to benefit from videos like this — it’s the entire area.”

Ball said if the project is the success he expects it to be, look for similar promotional initiatives in the future.

“This is the first time we’ve done something like this and we’re optimistic this is going to make a difference in the way people see the area,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wilf Curlew, president of the Junction Trailblazers snowmobile group said the video will only enhance the area’s already strong reputation as a winter haven for riders.

“You can never have too much advertizing,” Curlew said. “The word is already out about what we have to offer here, so any help is good as long as it isn’t negative stuff.”

The video is posted on the main page of the town’s website and can be accessed at www.town.deerlake.nf.ca.
