This white SUV was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Hampden Junction on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
A woman is dead after the SUV she was a passenger in with collided with a transport truck four kilometres east of the Hampden Junction Tuesday morning.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Deer Lake received a call about a two-vehicle collision at about 11:30 a.m.
âUpon arrival at scene what we had was a transport truck that was west bound and an SUV that was east bound and they had collided at some point,â said Cpl. Eric Humber of the Deer Lake RCMP.
âThe SUV did leave the roadway after it collided with the truck,â he added.
The deceased woman was one of three people in the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two people in the SUV were taken by ambulance to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The male driver of the transport truck was not injured.
Humber said police are talking with witness to determine what happened to cause the accident.
âRight now we have an RCMPâcollision reconstructionist on scene, and so heâll be examining the scene and the whatâs there as well,â said Butler.
At just before 4 p.m. the RCMPâissued a media release advising motorists to reduce their speed and use caution when travelling in the area. Police said the highway was open and traffic was moving slow with officers still working on the scene.
