Sacred Heart Sabres claim Grade 6 female basketball title

Holly Mackey drained 24 points to lead the Sacred Heart Sabres to a 48-21 victory over C.C. Loughlin School in the showdown for gold at the western Grade 6 female basketball tournament.

Abby Caines collected 10 points to lead the offensive attack for the C. C. Loughlin girls as the quest for the West Coast Provincial Grade 6 girls basketball crown unfolded Saturday at J. J. Curling Elementary gymnasium.

The Loughlin girls earned a berth in the final by virtue of a 30-29 triumph over host J.J. Curling as Kenisha Rowsell’s 15-point performance highlighted the victory.

Kaitlyn Watkins was the top scorer for the J.J. squad with eight points in the semifinal matchup played Saturday afternoon.

Mackey was up to her old tricks for the Sabres in the semifinal matchup for her team, leading the attack with 19 points in a 58-28 victory over St. Gerard’s School.

Melissa Barker replied with 15 points for St. Gerard’s in a losing cause.

J.J. Curling Grade 5s 30, Templeton Academy 28

Alicia Osmond poured in 14 points for the winners, third-place finishers in A Division, while Abby Warren had eight points for Templeton, third-place finishers in B Division, in the seven-team tournament.



J.J. Curling Elementary 31, St. Gerard’s School 29

Grace Hatcher was the top scorer for the winners with 10 points.

Paige Hickey collected 12 for St. Gerard’s.


C.C. Loughlin 27, J.J. Curling Grade 5s 19

Abby Caines paved the way for the winners with a 10-point outing.

Alicia Osmond responded with eight points for the opposing bench.


Templeton Academy 38, Humber Elementary 31

Jessica Corbin was dominant force on the hardwood for the north shore girls with a 16-point effort.

Amy Payne poured in 13 in a losing cause.


J.J. Curling 37, Templeton Academy 22

Grace Hatcher’s eight-point effort highlighted the offensive punch for the winners.

Sarah Penney had a game-high 10 points for the north shore entry.


Sacred Heart School 25, C.C. Loughlin 10

Kristen Buckle had six points to lead the winners.

Kenisha Rowsell replied with four points for the Loughlin entry.


J.J. Curling 52, Humber Elementary 30

Grace Hatcher had a dozen points to lead the charge for the winners.

Miranda Luff’s 10-point outing was the highlight of the offensive attack for the opposing bench.


St. Gerard’s School 40, Templeton Academy 32

Melissa Barker was the top gun for the winners with a 20-point outing.

Jessica Corbin had eight in a losing effort.


St. Gerard’s School 47, Humber Elementary 22

Melissa Barker was a dominant performer on the hardwood with 10 points for the victors.

Amy Payne continued her consistent effort with 15 points for the Humber Elementary girls.
