CORNER BROOK — Silver it is for Corner Brook’s Cody Hutchings.

Hutchings, a keeper and the lone member of the provincial Under-13 male team from western Newfoundland, and his Team Newfoundland and Labrador teammates were shaded 4-1 by Nova Scotia in the showdown for gold at the Atlantic Under-13 boys soccer championship Sunday at Wellington Street sports complex.

Alex Black, chosen Most Valuable Player in the male tournament, scored three goals to lead the charge for Nova Scotia.

Pascal Doucette also scored for Nova Scotia.

Lyndon Boone answered for Newfoundland and Labrador.

The bronze medal in the Under-13 boys bracket was awarded to New Brunswick after a stunning 4-3 overtime win over Prince Edward Island in the battle of the third-and-fourth place provinces.

On the female side, tournament MVP Kayla Brace scored three goals to lead Nova Scotia to a 4-0 drubbing of  Prince Edward Island Sunday at the Wellington Street sports complex.

Jamie Baker scored the other goal for the champions, while the shutout was shared by Spencer Skinner and Haley Smith.

Newfoundland and Labrador claimed the bronze in the Under-13 girls bracket after registering a 2-0 win over New Brunswick in a contest played early Sunday at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Pitch.

Nicole Torraville scored both goals for the host province, while Jade Hoysradt recorded the clean sheet.
