A new season begins tonight at Jubilee Field in Corner Brook

Aaron Purcell-Pilgrim and Rob Park combined for a nifty three-hitter as the West Side Monarchs downed the Wing ‘N It Marlins 9-3 in the final game of the regular season in the Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League Tuesday night.

Kyle Brown drove in two runs in a 1-for-1 outing for the black and gold, while Travis Taylor supported the cause going 1-for-4 with an RBI and Aaron Sheppard went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Sean Anderson went 1-for-2 with an RBI, Daniel McCarthy 1-for-3 with an RBI and catcher Tyler Gardner finished up 1-for-4 as the game got out of reach in the sixth as the black and gold pushed six runs across.

The 2017 playoffs get underway tonight with the defending Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks tangling with the Marlins in the opening game of a best-of-five semifinal affair 7 p.m. at Jubilee Field. Game 1 of the other league semifinal between the Monarchs and Veitch Physiotherapy Aces goes Friday 7 p.m. at Jubilee Field.
