Greg Barry has had plenty of memorable moments at Jubilee Field over the years.
On Sunday, he added another to his list of accomplishments.
Barry of the Feildians Ellsworth Group outduelled Sean Janes of the Holy Cross Crusaders to emerge with a 1-0 win in the final of the 2014 Molson Provincial Senior Club Baseball Tournament at Jubilee Field Sunday.
With the two east coast teams locked in a pitcher’s duel that required two extra innings, Mike Delaney’s RBI single scored Jon Walsh in the bottom of the ninth inning to make a winner out of Barry and company.
The former Pasadena Pirates lefty went the distance and allowed just two hits while striking out eight. Janes took the tough loss from the mound, surrendering seven hits without allowing an earned run to go along with a walk and three strikeouts.
The Feildians finished the third-even club tournament with an unblemished 3-0 record but needed some late-inning heroics to beat the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks 7-6 in a semifinal Sunday to reach the final.
The Crusaders were 1-2 through the round robin but squeaked out a 2-1 win against the West Side Monarchs in Sunday’s other semifinal to reach the final. The Hawks finished the tourney with a 2-2 record, while the Monarchs were 2-1.
The Veitch Physio Aces were 1-2 on the weekend, while the expansion Wing ‘n’ It Curling Marlins finished 0-3.
The following is a closer look at how local teams fared at the tournament:
Aces 16, Marlins 5
Ryan Park tossed the complete-game win for the Aces and Grant Vincent chipped in with a home run and three RBI.
Travis Taylor went seven innings and suffered the loss.
Shawn Anderson had a double and two RBI for the Marlins.
Monarchs 10, Hawks 6
Rob Park went the distance and struck out eight batters to earn the win. Matt Colbourne lasted just 1 2/3 innings in suffering the loss.
Adam Warren paced the attack for the victors with a two-RBI single while Mike Brake and Darren Colbourne each ripped RBI doubles for the Hawks.
Feildians 6, Aces 2
Jon Walsh earned the win for the Fieldians while Brian Bennett took the loss.
Mike Delaney was 3-for-4 with two RBI for the winners.
Veteran Rob Myrden was 2-for-2 with a walk in the loss.
Monarchs 8, Crusaders 7
Dan McCarthy went five innings to earn the win, while Rob French took the loss on the hill.
Rob Park had three hits for the Monarchs, while French had three of his own for the Crusaders.
Feildians 15, Marlins 2
Brad Roche earned the win on the hill and tossed five innings as the Feildians beat the Marlins. Dave Penney belted a grand slam in a 2-for-3 effort.
Hawks 11, Crusaders 6
Cory Lockyer earned the win on the hill, while Gerry Stone pitched 1/3 of an inning in the loss.
Brake was 5-for-5 with two doubles for the Hawks, while Matthew Smith was 2-for-3.
Hawks 6, Marlins 1
Matt Colbourne tossed a complete-game to earn the win.
Ryan Harnett took the loss.
Mike Simms was 3-for-4 for the victors, while Des Ball paced the losing attack with a 3-for-3 evening.
Crusaders 20, Aces 7
Justin Crawley chucked the win, while Kevin Farrell took the loss.
Ron French had three hits and 5 RBI for the Crusaders.
Mark Lombard was 2-for-3 with a double for the Aces.
