In the final on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the Barons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Pilots edged closer, making the score 3-2 Barons heading into the last inning, setting the stage for some drama.
First off, Mike Dyke hit a solo shot, his second homer of the tournament, in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 3 heading to the bottom of the inning. Aaron Flood led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Greg Sharpe then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Flood to third with the heart of the Barons lineup waiting.
Rather then walk Colbourne and Hynes to load the bases, setting up the force at all bases, the Pilots elected to pitch to the Barons strength. AJ Whiffen got ahead two strikes in the count. The 0-2 pitch was a good pitch off the plate but Colbourne reached out and spanked a line drive past the drawn in infield for the walk-off victory.
Matt Colbourne earned the win throwing a great complete game that earned him player of the game honours and top pitcher for the tournament. Whiffen took the loss for Gander.
The top batter for the tournament was Kevin Miller of Gander who had a. 600 average in the tournament.
Hynes of the Barons was the MVP for the tournament finishing with a .400 batting average, 11 runs batted in and a win from the hill.
