That combination meant great things for the West Side Monarchs at Jubilee Field on Tuesday night. Not so much for the Wing n’ It Curling Marlins.

Michael Tavenor threw an abbreviated no-hitter and struck out 14 batters as the Monarchs destroyed the Marlins 15-0 in a five-inning, mercy-rule Corner Brook Supplement Shack Senior Baseball League triumph.

The gold and black got plenty of big performances at the plate, as well.

Among the Monarchs who put up video game numbers were Sean Mitchell and Steven Sheppard, who were both 4-for-5. Mitchell drove in three runs and scored twice, while Sheppard had three runs and two RBIs. Sheldon Ford was also large with three runs and three RBIs in a 3-for-4 evening, while Jeff Gillam was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Kevin Farrell was charged with the pitching loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits over three innings, with one strikeout to his credit.
