Corner Brook -
With the 50th anniversary of the club coming in 2010, the golden tradition of the black and gold continues on Friday as the Corner Brook West Sports Club holds its annual awards night in the Monarchs Room of the Palace Theatre on Broadway.
All members past and present, players, coaches and supporters of the club and its Monarchs teams are invited and encouraged to attend.
As usual, awards presented will include the Crown of Achievement Award, presented to an individual or group of individuals who have made an outstanding contribution through service or otherwise during the past year or over a number of years; and the Terry King Award, presented in memory of Terry King to an individual who exemplifies the qualities and prerequisites of this award by best combining sportsmanship, leadership, dedication and effort participating on the field of play for the club.
MVP honours will also go to specific members of the West Side Monarchs various sports teams including men's indoor soccer, men's outdoor soccer, men's baseball, men's broomball (Wayne Buckle Memorial Award) and women's softball (Bridget Brake Memorial Award). A number of 10-year ring awards to honorary members will also be presented.
The club will also honour the West Side Monarchs 2009 Corner Brook Molson Women's Softball League championship team.
