Carter Bromley loves to be the floor general for his basketball team.

He loves being the point guard because he gets to have a big say in how the team attacks and defends.

He gets to handle the ball more frequently than others so he’s a happy camper when he’s on the basketball court.

Bromley, 10-year-old son of Bernie Bromley and Natalie Hussey, is a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary School Grade 5 boys basketball team playing host to the West Coast Provincial Grade 5 Boys Basketball Tournament this weekend.

The eight-team, two-division tournament features entries from Corner Brook, Pasadena, Deer Lake and Meadows with Bromley and company playing the tournament opener today at 3:30 p.m. against the J. J. Curling Grade 4 squad.

Bromley believes his squad will give a good account of themselves given the fact they had some close games against Grade 6 teams to prepare for this event. They didn’t win any games against older players but he figures those exhibition games will help prepare them for players his own age.

“We can run with every single team,” he said.

He’s been playing basketball for three years and loves the competitive aspect of the game so he’s excited to see how things unfold on the hardwood.

He plans on working hard to ensure he helps the team put some wins together and playing the tournament in familiar confines is something he believes will help.

“I’m used to the nets here so that should help,” he said.

A complete tournament schedule can be found in today’s Scoreboard Page 11.
